The Karoo Lamb Restaurant is proud to host the South African finger-style guitar giant Guy Buttery who will be performing in Nieu-Bethesda on Thurs, 15 Aug. This event is part of a national tour launching his much anticipated album, ‘Live in KwaZulu’, recorded over two nights at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
“Guy Buttery is something of a National treasure” says The Mercury, with sell-out performances in the US, the UK, Australia, France, Italy and all over Southern Africa “Guy is Africa’s biggest acoustic music export.”
His debut album, ‘When I Grow Up…’ was nominated for ‘Best Instrumental Album of the Year’ and ‘Best Newcomer’ at the 2002 South African Music Awards. In 2010 he won a SAMA in the ‘Best Instrumental’ category as well as the Standard Bank Golden Ovation Award – which he won again in 2012 for his performances with long time collaborator, Nibs van der Spuy.
After sold out shows at festivals and in concert halls across South Africa and Europe and an invitation to perform with the 52-piece KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, Guy Buttery has earned his reputation as “one of South Africa’s finest contemporary exponents of the acoustic guitar.”
Guy’s debut Nieu-Bethesda performance is in support of the Karoo anti-fracking forum and local efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of Hydraulic Fracturing and the real threats it poses to the people of the Karoo. Guy has donated a numbered copy of ‘To Disappear in Place’ which is a 2011, limited edition vinyl comprised of out-takes, remakes, live recordings and demo’s. This collectors’ item will be handed over to the highest bidder in a real Karoo ‘top-up auction’ on the night.
In addition, a percentage of all tickets sold will be donated to the Union High School Matric Farewell Fundraising Committee who will also be selling anti-fracking bumper stickers and T-shirts at the event.
The performance starts at 7pm at the Karoo Lamb Restaurant on Thursday 15th August. Tickets are R100 and can be booked by calling The Karoo Lamb in Nieu-Bethesda on 049 841 1642.
Guy will also be selling CD’s including ‘Live in KwaZulu’ at R120 each and the Karoo Lamb Restaurant will be serving a selection of delicious potjies at R80 per plate, so come hungry and support the Karoo anti-fracking forum and the Union High School MFC.
